As part of the 2012 Autumn Statement the government announced the creation of a Local Pinch Point Fund worth £170 million to remove bottlenecks on the local highway network which are impeding growth. Wolverhampton successfully secured £3.5 million as part of this process for works at Wobaston Road. Government has now announced that a further £55 million is now available on a competitive basis.

Wolverhampton in Partnership with Centro have submitted a bid for funding to help support improved public transport journey time reliability, reduce congestion, enhance pedestrian crossing facilities and provide new facilities for cyclists. The package as a whole supports the Local Pinch Point Fund objectives of supporting economic growth by tackling barriers on the local highway network.
