Enjoy a summer of fun and fitness at leisure centre

Young people are enjoying a summer of fun at the Bert Williams Leisure Centre.

The Wolverhampton City Council run centre is hosting a series of events aimed at children aged between 4 and 15 with the emphasis on fun and fitness.

They include a football course for 4 to 12 year olds on Thursdays 8 and 15 August, 2013. The sessions run from 10am to 3pm and costs £9.50 per day.

There will be Active Fun days for 4 to 12 year olds featuring games of treasure hunt, dodgeball and rabbits tails on Fridays 2, 9 and 16 August between 10am and 3pm. These also cost £9.50 per day.

Teams of 8 to 12 year olds are invited into the Game Zone to enjoy Kick Rounders, Throw Tennis and Non-stop Cricket. Sessions take place on Fridays 2, 9 and 16 August between 10am and 3pm and cost £9.50 per day.

Racketball taster sessions for 8 to 15 year olds take place on Thursday August 15 and 16 from 10am to 10.45am and cost £2.05 per session, while there is a squash course for 10 to 15 year olds from Tuesday to Friday 6 to 9 August. The sessions take place from 2pm to 3pm each day and the programme costs £8.20.

There are week long swimming crash courses for 4 to 14 year olds from Mondays to Fridays, 5 to 9, 12 to 16, 29 to 23 and 26 to 30 August. Each course costs £16.50 with sessions lasting 25 minutes per day.

There are also Aqua Fun sessions for 7 to 15 year olds on Thursdays 8, 15 and 22 August. These run from 11am to 12pm and cost £3.50 per person.

Meanwhile, those aged 16 and under are reminded they can continue to take up the city council's free swimming programme which enables them to swim for free at Bert Williams Leisure Centre, as well as Central Baths and Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre.

Children can learn how to repair and maintain their bikes when the Bicycle Roadshow rolls into the leisure centre on Friday 9 August between 10.30am and 3pm, while young artists are invited to enjoy a Crazy Painting colouring competition on Wednesdays 7, 14 and 21 August from 10.30 to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Teddy Bears will be enjoying musical picnics on Fridays 9, 16, 23 and 30 August between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Young people aged 10 to 15 will also get some top first aid tips through the Insight into First Aid course taking place on Tuesday 16 August between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Places for this course cost £4.60.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "There are plenty of exciting and educational activities taking place at the Bert Williams Leisure Centre this summer which will be great for our younger visitors and help keep them occupied during the long holiday break."
