A message from the leader

As the leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council I am proud of the strides we have made to protect and improve services - despite the unprecedented financial challenges we face.

Our Children's Services, recently rated good by OFSTED, are amongst the best in the region and UK. Our transformation as an organisation, delivering better outcomes for residents and businesses, was also recently endorsed at the local government MJ Awards where we won a record four awards including the prestigious Local Authority of the Year 2017. A tribute to the hard work of employees, partners and the support of the communities we serve.

The city is benefiting from some £3.7 billion-pounds-worth of investment that will create opportunities for the residents of the city. Investment in new businesses and jobs are good for the city and reflects our great and growing manufacturing tradition. Earlier this year the influential FDI Magazine put us top in western Europe for manufacturing jobs growth.

However, we need to focus on improving peoples skills to take the opportunities for new jobs, that is why we have been working with partners to implement the recommendations of the City of Wolverhampton Skills Commission I launched.

Community cohesion is also vitally important and in that respect we continue to work closely with the voluntary sector, faith groups, communities and neighbourhoods to ensure the City of Wolverhampton is a great place to live, work and play.

Finally, we are committed to providing prosperity for all and I believe that the developments we are making will lead to great improvements in the city.
