The City of Wolverhampton Council employment initiative in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) was unveiled at Wolverhampton Racecourse on 25 January, 2017.

The figures are a major boost for the programme, which is aiming to get 3,000 local people, including 1,000 young people, back into work over 3 years.

In addition to 2,129 local people into employment, 577 have been supported into the Sector Based Work Academy, and 183 into work experience.

More than 300 businesses have also now pledged their support to Wolves at Work.

City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor John Reynolds, said: "This is great news for the city and I am delighted Wolves at Work is making a major impact in terms of delivering jobs for local people.

"There is £3.7 billion of investment on site or in the pipeline in the City of Wolverhampton and it is important local people benefit from the jobs and growth being generated."

Dez Grant, DWP District Operations Leader for Wolverhampton added: "I am delighted with the progress the partnership has made and look forward to supporting more local people into work, which will continue to benefit Wolverhampton businesses."

Employers have committed to Wolves at Work in different ways, with pledges of work experience and to recruit local people and train workforce mentors.

Work coaches are on hand to help local people get work ready and provide support to employers in recruitment and ensuring new recruits thrive in the workplace.
