Ronnie Le Drew, who is perhaps best known as the performer of Zippy from the children's TV show Rainbow, will be talking about his life and work as a puppeteer including Labyrinth, Muppet Treasure Island and last year's box office smash Beauty and the Beast.

The talk at the Lichfield Street gallery will be followed by a Q&A session.

City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor John Reynolds, said: "We are delighted to welcome Ronnie Le Drew to Wolverhampton Art Gallery and hear of his life in the TV and film industry."

Michael Dixon, Archivist at The National Puppetry Archive, added: "If you've watched television at any point during the last 40 years or so, you'll know Ronnie Le Drew. Maybe not by sight, but by performance! From his infamous turn as Zippy from Rainbow to assisting on Sooty and Sweep - he has done it all. We are delighted Ronnie is coming to Wolverhampton to give an illustrated insight into his lifetime in puppetry."

Zippy and Me: An illustrated talk by Ronnie Le Drew will start at 2pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available from wolvescivic - Zippy & Me or by calling 01902 552055.

Current exhibitions at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery showcasing more puppetry from the 80s are: 'Clangers, Bagpuss & Co.' a V&A Museum of childhood touring exhibition and 'TV Puppets: Icons from 80 Years of Entertainment', curated in partnership with the National Puppetry Archive.

These 2 exhibitions run until Sunday 29 April and admission is free.
