City's first council homes constructed fully offsite set to land

City of Wolverhampton Council's first council homes constructed totally offsite will start being dropped into place at their permanent Fallings Park address at the end of this month.

The 4, 2 bedroom modular houses are being manufactured in Dublin, Ireland, by Extraspace Solutions, and will be transported and lifted into position on land off Cannock Road.

They will be the first of their kind delivered by City of Wolverhampton Council in conjunction with Wolverhampton Homes, and the completed houses will be ready for handover on 14 February.

The £600,000 pilot scheme started on site in November 2017 and is part of the council's successful newbuild council housing programme on small derelict sites.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Assets and Housing, said: "This project is yet another example of how the council is using innovative ways to accelerate house building in the City of Wolverhampton.

"Clearly, larger housing developments are crucial to meeting our housing targets - but the cumulative effect of smaller scale projects like this is also vital to improving our offer."

Shaun Aldis, Chief Executive at Wolverhampton Homes, added: "We're really excited about this scheme.

"Modular buildings have many benefits over traditional construction including a shorter construction time, reduced site disruption and more consistent quality.

"This means we can provide more council housing, more quickly, without too much disruption to the people living next to the build site."

The scheme is monitored through a joint-project team from City of Wolverhampton Council and Wolverhampton Homes, to ensure the new council homes are built to a high standard.

The homes will remain in the ownership of the city council and will be managed by Wolverhampton Homes.
