Immigration Act

The Immigration Act 2016 was implemented on 1 December 2016 to prevent illegal working in the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire sectors.

It places a duty on local authorities to refuse to grant or renew a licence if the applicant cannot present documentation proving their right to work in the UK. A list of acceptable documentation can be found here.

How will it affect you?

On collection of your licence you will be required to present your driving licence and a document showing your right to work in the UK. If you are unable to present the required documentation you will not be able to collect your licence.

To transfer your visa to a current document, click here.

If you do not provide the correct documentation within 6 months of your collection date, your application will be refused.

Home Office checking service

If you fail to present correct documentation on collection we will provide you with the option of our right to work checking service.

For a charge of £125 we will carry out a check with the Home Office to get clarification on your right to work status. Subject to the response we will be able to determine your application. You will have to pay for and repeat this process on renewal until correct documentation is provided.
